Tour Overview

Your day begins with a friendly pickup in Inverness and winds south through the Monadhliath Mountains. Along the way, your guide shares stories about the clans that once roamed these hills and the wildlife that still does. The itinerary includes:

  1. Tomatin Distillery – Founded in 1897, Tomatin produces a range of single malt whiskies known for their gentle, fruity character. You’ll tour the still house, warehouses and cooperage before sampling drams, including cask‑strength expressions available only on site.

  2. Highland Wildlife Park – This unique park blends open‑range reserve with walk‑through areas. You’ll see native red deer, wildcats, capercaillie and golden eagles, as well as non‑native species like Amur tigers and polar bears. Learn about conservation efforts and endangered species breeding programmes.

  3. Aviemore – This lively mountain town serves as the gateway to the Cairngorms. Enjoy lunch in a cosy café, browse outdoor gear shops or take a stroll along the River Spey. On certain days, local markets sell crafts and artisanal food.

  4. Strathspey Steam Railway – Board a vintage locomotive for a 45‑minute journey through the Spey Valley. The rhythm of the train and the scent of coal smoke evoke the golden age of rail travel. Panoramic windows frame views of heather, birch forest and distant peaks.

Cairngorm Mountain – Weather permitting, ride the funicular to the Ptarmigan Station on Cairngorm Mountain. A viewing terrace reveals a sea of peaks and lochs; on clear days you can see as far as Lochnagar. If the funicular isn’t running, your guide will drive to another viewpoint such as the Rothiemurchus Forest or Loch Morlich’s sandy beach.
