Eilean Donan is one of the most recognised castles in Scotland, and probably the world. Strategically located on its own little island, overlooking the Isle of Skye, at the point where three great sea-lochs meet, and surrounded by the majestic splendour of the forested mountains of Kintail, Eilean Donan’s setting is truly breathtaking.

The castle was first inhabited around the 6th century, but the first fortified castle was built in the mid 13th century. Since then, at least four different versions of the castle have been built and re-built as the feudal history of Scotland unfolded. The castle was partially destroyed in a Jacobite uprising in 1719, and then lay in ruins for the best part of 200 years until it was restored in the 20th century.
