About the Glenfinnan Viaduct

Located in the hamlet of Glenfinnan in Lochaber, about 30 minutes west of Fort William, this Victorian engineering masterpiece was built between 1897 and 1901. Stretching 416 yards with 21 semi-circular arches, it is the longest concrete railway bridge in Scotland and still carries regular ScotRail services plus the world-famous Jacobite Steam Train.

The viaduct gained worldwide fame as the filming location for the Hogwarts Express in the Harry Potter movies and now draws visitors from across the globe.

The Jacobite steam train runs on the line during the summer months, offering a chance to recreate the magical journey for yourself and witness one of Scotland’s most iconic views.
